Love, intimacy, deception, and cruelty are the main themes depicted in this contemporary play. The Shape of Things is set in a small university town in the American Midwest and centers on the lives of four young students who become emotionally and romantically involved with each other.
A large white industrial art gallery with crude rough structures and materials is the setting for the play scenes.
